But the readers have spoken.
Rachel Crowther and The Baby in the Phone Box, a tale of motherhood, friendship, secrets and loss came out as the overall favourite.
Readers said it captured the mid-life crisis with characters that they could believe in.
Another hugely popular novel with readers was Seven Days to Tell You by Ruby Soames. This tracks a marriage in crisis, and many readers say they couldn't put it down.
Both works will be published by Hookline Books next year.
The two other novels: Leeward Lady by Rita Wheeler and Apple Castle by Angela Sherlock had solid support from reading groups.

We look forward to a new year with new titles to show the reading public.
In the meantime, the Hookline Novel Competition starts again next year - details soon.
